Charts: Color Grouping

Multiple charts can be open at the same time. When a Chart is opened, two color boxes are displayed in the bottom-right corner of the chart.  The left box is a 'Symbol Group' color box.  The right box is a 'Time Group' color box.  A chart can be grouped with other charts on the screen based on the color of the two boxes.  This allows several charts to respond to Symbol changes and Time Frame changes with just one click (based on the color of the boxes).

Click on the color box to display the color panel shown above.  Click on one of the squares on the panel to select a color.

Grouping Charts by Symbol
Charts can be grouped together by Symbol.  For example, whenever you change a chart to a different Symbol, then ALL the charts that match the chart's 'Symbol Group' color box will also change to the new symbol (but retain their unique Time Frames).  A new symbol can be specified on a chart by pressing Ctrl-S on the keyboard, selecting a symbol from the Chart Symbols window, selecting Charts | New Symbol from the menu, double-clicking on a Quote page symbol, or by scrolling through Quote page symbols using the Home and End keys.

NOTE: Time & Sales windows and Level II windows can also be grouped together with charts based on their 'Symbol Group' color box.  This allows you to change Charts, Time & Sales windows, and Level II windows all to the same Symbol.

Example, suppose that 6 charts were currently displayed on the screen and the 'Symbol Group' color box on 3 of the charts was set to RED .  If chart symbol were changed, then all 3 charts would change to the new symbol.  The remaining 3 charts would not be affected since their 'Symbol Group' color boxes did not match.  However, if the color was changed to WHITE , then that chart would always participate with any symbol changes from any chart.  In other words, WHITE is a wildcard color allowing a chart to change Symbols when any other chart changes symbols.  On the other hand, BLACK is used to exclude a chart from participating in any Symbols changes.  A BLACK 'Symbol Group' color box will keep a chart's symbol unique. 

Grouping Charts by Time Frame
The right side box is a 'Time Group' color box.  Charts can be grouped together by Time Frame.  For example, whenever you change a chart to a different Time Frame, then ALL the charts that match the chart's 'Time Group' color box will also change to the new Time Frame (but retain their unique Symbols).

Example, suppose that 4 charts were currently displayed on the screen and the 'Time Group' color box on 2 of the charts was set to BLUE.  If one of these charts changed to a different Time Frame, then both charts would change to the new Time Frame.  The remaining 2 charts would not be affected since their 'Time Group' color boxes did not match.  If the 'Time Group' color box is changed to WHITE, then that chart would always participate with any Time Frame changes from any chart.  WHITE is a wildcard color allowing a chart to change Time Frames when any other chart changes Time Frames. BLACK is used to exclude a chart from participating in any Time Frame changes.  A BLACK 'Time Group' color box will keep a chart's Time Frame unique.

Show/Hide the Color Group Boxes
Click menu SetUp | Charts to show the Chart property form.  Check the Color Grouping box to show the two boxes on the charts.  Uncheck the box to remove the color grouping boxes from the charts.
