IB: Quotes on TWS disappear, too many symbols

Q:  I have Ib feed and as soon as I start Ensign, my quotes from TWS disappear.  Not all of them, but more then 50%.  As soon as I close Ensign, I get back all quotes in TWS.

A:  In Ensign, go to Setup | Manager and groom the list to have current symbols.  Possibly you have lots of expired symbols still on the list, or you have many symbols you do not need.   TWS has a capacity limit of # symbols followed, and possibly the excess from Ensign affects what can show on TWS, because of the symbol universe size limit.

Q:  I deleted custom quote page.  Let me try from data manager.  Thanks.

A:  Setup | Manager is the key place, because it is this list that we send to TWS to get data for.  Go to Setup | Manager and groom the symbol list there.

Q:  Yup it works, I did not add symbols there?  How to control?

A:  The symbols auto add to that list as you open charts for new symbols.  So if you were not actively managing the list, it just grew and grew.  Glad suggested solution was what was needed to resolve.

Q:  OK, thanks.  Are there any limits or do I need to do regular maintenance?

A:  Now you know a little more.   I think limit is 100 symbols, but I always follow much less.  Visit the list at least monthly to remove expiring futures.
